Bangalore: Buses in Bangalore are set to celebrate their day on Thursday. The Whitefield Sarige has been selected for the special launch of Bus Day, an initiative to encourage use of public transport. The motto is: live, work and shop without using your car in Whitefiled. A joint initiative of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Agenda for Bengaluru Infrastructure Development (ABIDe), the pilot project is part of the larger plan proposed under Local Area Loop Services. Based on its success, the initiative will extended to other areas of Bangalore. It will be a full-time, bidirectional service every 10 minutes. The route will be Marathalli-Kundalahalli-Cosmos Mall-Graphite India-SAP Labs-Sai Baba Hospital-ITPBHope Farm-Whitefield-Forum Mall-Kodi-Sigma Tech Park-Siddapura-Kundalahalli-Marathalli.

Posters encouraging people to use public transport were pasted on buses in Bangalore on Wednesday

There will be 10 and 5 buses available respectively for the two directions — clockwise and ant-clockwise. Starting with non-AC service, the scheme will alternate between AC and non-AC buses in a week. The service is planned to cater to every section of society. The non-AC buses will ply at normal rates (starting at Rs 3) and the AC fare will be similar to the Volvo fare based on distance. Almost all buses plying on the Electronic city route on Wednesday had BMTC posters pasted on the windows, urging people to use only public transport to travel on Thursday. The drive will take place on the fourth of every month. The idea is to reduce fuel consumption, pollution and congestion on Bangalore’s roads.
